We recently gathered in the Seton Conference Room at DePaul House for our Lenten Day of Reflection.  Presented by Sr. Joanne Donovan, Diane Colacino and Ann Rose, we dove into the theme of “Our Lenten Journey.”  Over the course of the morning, several traditions of our faith were discussed.

The Ladies received a warm welcome as each table was beautifully decorated by Diane with grapevine wreaths, candles and burlap bookmarks; the beauty being in the simplicity which kept to the theme of the season.

Sr. Joanne began the day with an overview of the pillars of Lent:  Fasting, Almsgiving, Prayer and Penance, reminding us that prayer and penance are two of the most wonderful graces given to us by our Lord.

Sr. Mary Frate, our guest speaker, shared an inspirational talk about the beauty of confession.  Her points of how our Lord loves us just as we are and forgives us always hit home for many.  Our activity of calling to mind our transgressions, believing in God’s love and forgiveness, then joining hands and reciting the Confiteor prayer was powerful.

Sr. Joanne and Diane led us in a wonderful communion service before we broke for lunch.  The cafeteria staff of the Daughters of Charity provided a delicious selection of shrimp scampi over pasta, fresh asparagus, tuna salad, tossed salad, fresh fruit and desserts.  Afterward, Ann Rose offered the history of the Stations of the Cross along with a suggested activity of how to pray the Stations while at home.  Hearing in song about Jesus’ journey on the “Sorrowful Way” through the “Via Dolorosa” was especially moving.

Small group discussion about Jesus’s walk to Calvary and His Crucifixion along with a decade of the Rosary concluded our day.

There is nothing more special than to be able to gather in the name of our Lord.  This was not taken for granted as one of the highlights was the fellowship among the Ladies.  The ability to meet new people, reconnect with old friends and share in prayer with other women of faith was one of the most special parts of our day.

We wish you all a holy and blessed Lenten season and hope that you will be able to join with us next time.
